Happy 2011!

Happy 2011 to all.  I have been a bit of a slack blogger lately, I seem to have lost my mojo since the finish of the Cookbook Challenge (which I did not even complete!).  I have still been cooking lots, just no time or inclination to write about it.  Guess that's what happens when you're busy with a new job & trying to run around doing Christmas stuff.  I did lots of Christmas cooking, 2 puddings, mince tarts, stained glass window biscuits & a glazed ham to name some of the more traditional recipes and for my mums birthday I made Poh's Jaffa Chiffon cake which I have to say I was very dubious about yet it turned out amazing & stayed fresh for days afterwards in the fridge, the fridge didnt even make it go hard & cold like I find it does to most baked goods making them inedible.

One of my resolutions this year is to have a bbq every weekend while it is still warm enough/daylight savings.  We tend to only fire it up when we have company and that is something I want to change.  I have so many mouth watering bbq recipes I want to try & most are ones I wouldnt bother to make if having a party so Saturday bbq night is the perfect excuse to try some of them out.  Tonight was the inaugural fire up & I went with some sticky ribs from Ben O'Donoghues barbecue cookbook.  I teamed it with some corn cobs & sliced chats.  Fantastic recipe, slow cooked for 3 hours so can sit back & relax until the last half hour where the veges are banged on & the glaze applied.  Kids were chomping away at there 'bones' quite happily & I have to say the only downside was how much I stuffed myself, smaller portions next bbq I say!

Ohh that looks delicious!!!

I miss the cookbook challenge too, it had me thinking outside the square for my cooking insipration.

I made a similiar resolution at the start of summer, Friday is "Alfresco Friday" on the site so that the family and I spend one day eating outdoors. Sometimes we picnic, or take a BBQ or nibbles at the beach but we are OUTDOORS eating!

The weather is just too nice not to make the most of it.

Alfresco Friday sounds like a great idea too, seems we were thinking alike!

Happy New Year Ange. That's a great idea to use the BBQ on a weekly basis. Like you, we only fire it up when we have company, but you've inspired me to use it more often. Plus, Hubby tends to be the one cooking then :)

Yeah gotta love it when the hubbie has to cook & you end up with a nice clean kitchen too

Welcome back Ange - I've missed seeing what you've been up to in the kitchen.

You may get a knock at the door one Saturday night if I can smell your bbq from my place..hehehe

Leigh, if you can find your way over by your nose alone, by all means, be my guest! Always plenty of leftovers due to over catering for the kiddies who would love to live on a diet of chocolate & ice cream alone

Hi Ange,
Apologies for the spam - but we thought you'd be interested in Rick Stein's hunt to find Australia's top food blogger!

He is hunting for the top food blogger to win tickets to the show, a signed program, signed cookbook and other goodies, PLUS the winner will have their blog entry and blog address printed and inserted into the show program.

If you're interested google "Rick Stein Tour" and look for the WIN page or find us on twitter @ricksteininoz.
Or go straight to the page here: http://www.ricksteintour.com.au/win.html
